ASUS took over Intel’s NUC (Next Unit of Computing) line and cranked it up to 11. The ROG NUC 2025 packs an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processor and up to an NVIDIA RTX 4070 laptop GPU into a chassis that measures just 4.3 x 4.3 x 2.1 inches. It’s the most powerful mini PC we’ve ever tested.
Design: Small Box, Big Attitude
This is unmistakably an ASUS ROG product. The matte black chassis has subtle RGB lighting that glows through a honeycomb ventilation pattern on the bottom, and the iconic ROG eye logo is proudly displayed on the side. Build quality is exceptional — the metal chassis is rigid, and every port aligns perfectly.
At 2.1 pounds, it’s light enough to toss in a backpack for LAN parties or client presentations. The vertical stand included in the box is sturdy and gives it a commanding presence on any desk.
Performance: Desktop-Class Power in Mini Form
The Intel Core Ultra 9 285H is Intel’s latest mobile architecture, and in the ROG NUC it’s allowed to stretch its legs with a 70W sustained power limit. Paired with the RTX 4070 laptop GPU, the results are impressive:

In gaming, the RTX 4070 delivers smooth 1080p ultra performance:
- Cyberpunk 2077 (RT Ultra, DLSS Quality): 68 fps

- Alan Wake 2 (High, DLSS Balanced): 58 fps
- Call of Duty MW3 (Extreme): 95 fps
- Counter-Strike 2 (Max settings): 210 fps
Thermals are well-managed thanks to a dual-fan cooling system with vapor chamber. Under sustained gaming load, the CPU tops out at 88°C and the GPU at 81°C — warm but within safe operating range. Fan noise is noticeable under full load (about 42 dB) but not unbearable. In office tasks, it’s essentially silent at 28 dB.
AI and Productivity: NPU Does the Heavy Lifting
The Core Ultra 9 285H includes a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of 11 TOPS. This enables real on-device AI features:
- Windows Studio Effects: Background blur, eye contact correction, and auto-framing in video calls — all running on the NPU without taxing the CPU or GPU.
- Local AI inference: Stable Diffusion 1.5 runs locally at 512×512 in about 8 seconds per image using DirectML. Not blazing fast, but usable.
- Copilot+ PC features: Recall, Live Captions, and Cocreator in Paint all work thanks to the NPU.
For content creators, the RTX 4070 accelerates Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Blender with CUDA and NVENC support. A 10-minute 4K H.265 export in Premiere took just 3 minutes — fast enough for professional workflows.
